Understanding the Hospital Billing Process
What are all these other bills?
All fees for physicians' services are billed separately by the physicians who provided your care. In addition to your primary physician, you may also receive bills from some of the physician groups listed below as well as any other physician(s) your doctor consulted with regarding your care:

Do you have insurance coverage?
After you are discharged, you may receive a statement from St. Joseph Hospital. Please review the information carefully and let us know if any of the information is not correct. If you have health insurance coverage we will bill your carrier. After the claim has been processed, you should receive an explanation of benefits from your health plan. This will show if you owe anything.
What if you do not have insurance coverage?
After you are discharged, you will receive a statement from St. Joseph Hospital. You will automatically receive a discount. If you pay your claim within 10 days of receiving the statement, you will receive an additional prompt pay discount. Please contact your Financial Counselor at (714)771-8185 to discuss the details.
What happens if I am unable to pay my bill in full?
St. Joseph Hospital accepts payment plans. Also, if you feel that your health insurance coverage is inadequate or you have no insurance coverage, you may qualify for financial assistance. To determine whether or not you are eligible, please contact your Financial Counselor at (714) 771-8185.
